This visa allows you to remain in Australia to take part in an approved special program. Special programs can include youth exchange, cultural enrichment or community programs, school language assistants or "gap year school volunteering ".

Things for the sponsor to note

  • be an Australian non-profit organisation or government agency. Other Australian organisations may be eligible to sponsor under the youth exchange category.
  • be able to meet your supporter or sponsor obligations

With this visa the applicant can

  • take part in a special program to that promotes cultural exchange
  • travel to and from Australia as often as they want while the visa is valid
  • include members of the family unit in their application
