Temporary Activity Visa (Subclass 408)

A temporary visa covering specified activities such as endorsed events, special programs, entertainment and other eligible activities.

Subclass 408 contains multiple activity streams. The correct stream determines the sponsorship or support requirements, permitted activities and possible length of stay. It should not be treated as a general work visa.

Who this pathway is generally for

  • Your proposed activity fits an available subclass 408 stream.
  • You have the required invitation, support or sponsorship for that stream.
  • You have the skills and background to carry out the nominated activity.

How the process usually works

  1. Identify the precise activity stream.
  2. Confirm whether sponsorship, support or invitation is required.
  3. Prepare evidence of the event, program, role and duration.
  4. Lodge the visa in the permitted location and comply with stream-specific conditions.

Issues that commonly need closer analysis

  • choosing the wrong activity stream
  • insufficient sponsorship or invitation evidence
  • activities extending beyond the visa purpose
  • changes to event, sponsor or role

Why the details matter

Visa criteria often operate together with application-validity rules, location requirements, previous immigration history and evidence requirements. Two people applying for the same subclass can therefore face very different legal and evidentiary issues.
